Bank Indonesia raises its benchmark interest rate 25 basis points

Jakarta (Antaranews Bali) - Bank Indonesia on Thursday raised its benchmark interest rate by 0.25 percentage point to 5.75 percent a day after the U.S. Federal Reserve raised its fund rate.

"This is consistent with the commitment to reducing the current account deficit to a safe level and to make the country`s financial market more attractive, give greater attraction to Indonesian financial market," Governor of the Indonesian Central Bank Perry Warjiyo said in a short press conference after a monthly meeting of the central bank here on Thursday.

Earlier Perry said the central bank would keep to ahead of the curve to protect the country currency rupiah.  (WDY)
