Denpasar (Antaranews Bali) - A total of 60 foreigners will participate in an election visit program in Surabaya, East Java, to observe the simultaneous regional head elections (pilkada) to be held on June 27, 2018.

"They will visit Surabaya and the surrounding cities, such as Sidoarjo. Several countries have also sought permission for conducting observation outside Java Islands, for instance, in Sulawesi, Kalimantan and Papua," Arief Budiman, head of the General Elections Commission, noted here, recently.

The 60 foreigners are from 36 countries, including Fiji, Egypt, South Korea, the United States, and the United Kingdom, he remarked.

Several of them will come directly from their countries, while some others are from their embassies in Jakarta.

They chose East Java Province due to its political dynamism and existing access to transportation.

"Our target is 140 (foreign observers), and usually in the last days, their number will surge," he noted.

The implementation of the simultaneous pilkada is on schedule, and the KPU has been focusing on the distribution of logistics in Kalimantan, Papua, North Sumatra, and Riau Islands, among other things.

The process of distributing election logistics usually takes a week in a region, except for Papua, which needs two weeks. (WDY)
