Balinese muslims break their fast with cow's teat satay

Denpasar (Antaranews Bali) - The Balinese Muslim community in the Kampung Jawa area, Wanasari Village, Denpasar, broke their fast with a special culinary dish called "sate susu" (cow's teat satay).

"Yes, I deliberately went to the market in Kampung Jawa that sold a special meal for breaking the fast, and I just came to buy 'sate susu' for my family," Febi, one of the local residents of Gatot Subroto Street, Denpasar, stated here on Thursday.

According to Febi, the satay prepared from cow's teats was more tender than the meat-based one.

Baiturahman Mosque, Wanasari, Kampung Jawa, Denpasar, usually turns into an impromptu market during every Ramadan month.

In the village, some traders sell various types of items to break the fast, such as "sate susu".

In addition, Balinese Muslims believe that "sate susu" has a warming effect on the body. Rahmad, a "sate susu" vendor, noted that he not only sold satay made from beef but also various other varieties, such as satay made from cow intestines and marrow.

"Sate susu is always sold out every day, with an average of around 30-50 sticks selling for Rp2 thousand," he remarked.

The impromptu market in Kampung Jawa also sells various dishes for breaking the fast, such as mixed rice, ice "kolak", mixed ice, fruit ice, and snacks.

During the month of Ramadan, Baiturrahman Mosque also holds a daily event to break the fast together, with various sweet snacks, or takjil.(WDY)
