Jakarta (Antaranews Bali) - The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is optimistic that the annual meetings of the IMF and World Bank (WB) in Bali in October 2018 would run successfully despite the recent terror bombing incidents in several areas.

"We have maintained sound coordination, and we believe the IMF-WB annual meetings in October will run successfully," IMF Communication Department Director Gerry Rice remarked in a statement received here on Friday.

Rice said the IMF continues to coordinate with the Indonesian government to ensure the safety and security of the annual meetings' participants.

He believes the annual meetings will run successfully owing to support of the committee and authorities in Indonesia.

"The authorities in Indonesia have made remarkable efforts to ensure the success of the event, and we will continue to communicate with them," Rice said.

On the occasion, the IMF also expressed its sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims of the terrorist bombings in Surabaya.

Earlier, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati had stated that preparations for the IMF-WB annual meetings would continue despite the bombings in Surabaya.

She explained that the current security-related coordination has been carried out between the government and the TNI and Police, so that the meetings in Bali will be held according to schedule and not be affected by the terror attacks.

Mulyani will also continue to coordinate with the organizing committee in the United States to ensure that the meetings, to be attended by as many as 15 thousand participants from various countries, will be held smoothly.

"Terrorist attacks have also occurred in various countries. They will definitely investigate the type of attack, threats, and ways to mitigate them," she added. (WDY)
