Istanbul (Antara Bali) - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has lauded Indonesia's support for Palestinian people's struggle to make progress as a state.

"The Palestinian president has expressed his deepest gratitude and appreciation to Indonesia for its support for Palestine," Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said here on Wednesday.

Marsudi stated that Abbas had offered the appreciation when he met President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) moments before they joined for a group photo of the extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) here on Wednesday.

The foreign minister accompanied Jokowi during the summit.

She noted that the Indonesian government's strong commitment to support the Palestinian people's struggle for independence has received appreciation from a number of countries, including Palestine.

Abbas also stated that Indonesia is the country outside the Middle East, which has much struggled for Palestine's rights.

Jordanian King Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussein also praised Indonesia for its stance.

The Jordanian king is also known as the custodian of Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is located in Jerusalem.

The OIC extraordinary summit, which took place at Rumeli Hall Lütfi Kirdar International Convention and Exhibition Center (ICEC), is aimed at uniting OIC member states' stand on the US unilateral recognition of Jerusalem as Israeli capital.

In his address to the summit, Jokowi reiterated Indonesia's support for Palestine's struggle by increasing political and economic support. (WDY)
