Badung Deploys 35 Medical Personnel To Help Mount Agung Evacuees

Mangupura (Antara Bali) - The government of Bali provincial District of Badung has deployed 35 medical personnel to help carry out health services for the evacuees, following an increase in volcanic activity at Mount Agung.

"Today, we have fielded 35 medical personnel, comprising of general practitioners, nurses, pharmacy clerks, and administrative personnel, to assist the health services for ailing evacuees," President Director of the Mangusada general hospital, Dr I Nyoman Gunarta, stated when contacted on Saturday.

Nyoman stated that the deployment of the 35 medical personnel was aimed to help the medical team of the Karangasem District treat the ailing evacuees optimally.

In addition to fielding the medical personnel, the Mangusada general hospital has also handed medicines, drinking water, children`s food, and milk for the children and the elderly.

According to Nyoman, his office is also ready to deliver masks if Mount Agung`s current status of Level IV is raised to eruption.

In the meantime, head of data and information center and public relations of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, remarked that the head of BNPB and other officials concerned had already been in Bali to coordinate with the governor and district heads of Bali.

BNPB has recorded a total of 9,421 people to have evacuated themselves in 50 locations in three districts, following the increasing activity of the mountain.

Volcanic tremor activity of Mount Agung in the district of Karangasem, Bali, has been on the rise since early this month, head of volcanic mitigation of the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center of the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Gede Suantika, explained on Sunday (Sept 17).(WDY)
