Denpasar (Antara Bali) - A state owned banking service PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) has sought to promote non-cash transaction system in annual tourism forum "BritAma Sanur Village Festival" in Bali.

"This is the right time to launch the government`s plan of non-cash national movement (GNNT),"Consumer Director of BRI Randi Anto said here on Thursday.

The participation of the state bank in the tourism forum was expected to encourage the people to use non-cash transactions by using `electronic money` now available in various traders and modern shops agreed to cooperate in promoting the system.

The socialization of using non-cash transactions is necessary before the government plan requiring toll fee payment with electronic money all over the country starting Oct. 1 this year, Randi said.

In the tourism forum, all transactions in each stand of micro, small and medium businesses (UMKM) were with electronic money, which was made available for visitors to buy, he said.

"Together with `Sanur Village Festival` we try to socialize sales by using Brizzi electronic money. Therefore, we continue to collaborate with colleagues in the region," he said.

BRI, and other members of the Association of State Banks (Himbara) are ready to support the government`s program to implement the regulation requiring the use of non-cash transactions in all toll roads all over Indonesia, he added.

Randi said the state bank has issued around 6.5 million cards of electronic money in the country.

The bank plans to issue up to 12 million pieces of Brizzi electronic money which could be used not only for toll road but also in transactions at modern shops, he said.

He added he was optimistic that the people would be more interested in using electronic money as it safer, transparent and more efficient, making it easier for traders in recording all transactions.

"The people now need something more practical and it is more convenient than carrying cash money in pocket," he added. (*/dwa)
