Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Indonesia and other Muslim countries are concerned about the long drawn conflicts in several Middle East countries which have claimed many lives, Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), Zulkifli Hasan, said.
"These lingering conflicts stemmed from various differences and the inability to see these differences," he stated while receiving Saudi Ambassador to Indonesia, Osamah Mohammed Alshuibi, at the Parliament building here on Wednesday.
He observed that he felt a sense of pity at these conflicts in Muslim countries.
"In the past, Afghanistan, Libya, Egypt and Syria were peaceful and prosperous and their citizens lived in harmony although their governments were authoritarian," he reminded.
However, change forced by other countries which have a different culture resulted in the conflicts and civil wars erupting.
A number of countries in the Middle East such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Egypt, and Syria have been grappling with long drawn conflicts which have become a cause for concern.
"We hope that Saudi Arabia can play a more active role in solving conflicts in neighboring states in the Middle East. The Saudi Kingdom is highly respected and is capable of resolving the issue," he stressed. (WDY)
