Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla has expressed the hope that Indonesian students will derive inspitration from Nobel winners to become so creative as to win global acknowledgement.

"We hope that our younger generation is inspired to be positively creative and win international recognition," Vice President Kalla said here on Wednesday.

He will act as the honorary chairman at the event, "Bridges: Dialogue Towards a Culture of Peace in Indonesia", in which Nobel laureates awarded for their contribution to Peace, Physics, Chemistry and Medicine will give public lectures and have a dialogue with students from schools and universities.

Kalla also hoped that the participating students can benefit from the event.

He also advised them to use the dialogue opportunity as a platform for exchanging perspectives and promoting the cause of Indonesias harmonious diversity.

"Indonesia is a country with the biggest Moslem population in the world, but it is also home to the Catholic, Protestant, Hindu and Buddhist communities. Over all, Indonesia has successfully maintained national harmony and unity based on the five principles (Pancasila) and the motto Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity)," he remarked.

Nobel winners who will attend the dialogue in Indonesia include recipients of 2007 Nobel for Economics, Professor Eric Stark Maskin, 2012 Peace Nobel H.E. Jose Manuel Barroso, 1979 Physics Nobel Professor Sheldon Lee Glashlow, 1993 Medicine Nobel Dr Sir Richard J Roberts, 2003 Economics Nobel Robert Fry Eugle III, 1990 Physics Nobel Professor Jerome Isaac Friedman, and 2003 Chemistry Nobel Dr Peter Agre.

The Bridges Dialogue will be held from January to March 2017 in 12 universities and two high schools in Indonesia, including the Airlangga University, the Atmajaya Catholic University, the Bandung Technology Institute, the Bina Nusantara University, the Gadjah Mada University, the Padjajaran University, the Petra Christian University, the Prasetya Mulya University, the Surabaya University, the Udayana University, the Jakarta National University, the University of Indonesia, the Bina Nusantara School Simprug and IPEKA Integrated Christian School.

Other than Indonesia, the Dialogue initiated by the International Peace Foundation in Vienna, Austria will also be held in Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam and Singapore. (WDY)
