Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Indonesian Embassy in Damascus is sponsoring Indonesian Film Week at the Dar al-Assad Cultural Hall in Lattakia City from September 21-23, 2016.

A press release from the Indonesian Embassy in Damascus, received by Antara here on Friday, stated that the event is the first to be held in Syria.

For three days the Embassy, in cooperation with the Syrian Ministry of Culture, will screen Indonesian movies, including Ainun Habibie, 5 cm, and Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck (the Singking of Van Der Wijck).

Indonesian Ambassador to Syria, Djoko Harjanto, said he hoped the movies strengthen the relationship between Indonesia and Syria, especially at the people-to-people level.

"We are witnessing a historical relation between the two countries, which is being written," said Ambassador Djoko, delivering a speech in front of about 200 people at the Lattakia Cultural Hall.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Lattakia, Major General Ibrahim Khudur al-Salim, who attended the opening of Indonesian Film Week, expressed his admiration for the efforts made by the Indonesian the Embassy in Damascus to strengthen relations through offering the films.

"On behalf of all the people of Lattakia, we are flattered and honored to be the first city chosen for Indonesian Film Week," the governor said.

Indonesian Film Week is to be held in three cities in Syria, including Lattakia on 21- 23 September, Homs on 28 to 30 September, and in Damascus from October 5 to 7.

The three films that were chosen portray the greatness and  beauty of Indonesia's cultures. (WDY)
