Merauke, Papua (Antara Bali) - President Joko Widodo stated here on Wednesday that the government will allocate funds amounting to Rp700 billion in order to build a seaport "Pelabuhan Samudera" in Merauke, Papua province.

In the initial phase, the government will disburse Rp200 billion," President Joko Widodo, better known as Jokowi, remarked here on Wednesday at time of observing a fish port facility, in Kali Maroo village, Merauke (Papua).

The president further noted that the fish collecting facility is badly needed as without such a supporting facility, the natural potential in the field of fisheries cannot be exploited to its full extent.

Papua is rich in fisheries sector and fish products are exported through Surabaya (East Java). (WDY)
