Kendari, SE. Sulawesi (Antara Bali) - The Ministry of Transportation will build some ferry docks linking four major islands in Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi province.

The four major islands are Wangiwangi, Kaledupa, Tomia and Binongko, head of the Transportation and Telecommunications office of Wakatobi, Syarifuddin, said here Thursday.

"The budget has not yet been submitted by the ministry to the office," he said, and added that the ministry just plotted some points where the ferry docks will be constructed.

"The construction of the ferry docks will be started in early 2016 and will be operated in early 2017," he said.

The construction of the docks is the government's support for Wakatobi which has been a special economic development zone for tourist sector, according to Syarifuddin.

"As a special economic zone, the government is obliged to build such supporting infrastructures in Wakatobi as transportation, telecommunications, electricity and clean water supply," he said.

The ferry docks, connecting the four islands in Wakatobi, will be an embryo to the construction of a ferry dock to connect Wakatobi - Lembata (East Nusa Tenggara), Syarifuddin said.

"If the Wakatobi - Lembata ferry dock is already built, then the logistic transportation and services in the two districts will become more efficient," he said. (WDY)
