Jakarta (Antara Bali) -- Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno L. P. Marsudi will attend a meeting of the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) in San Jose, Costa Rica, on August 21, according to an official.

The FEALAC meeting will take place from August 19 to 21, Director of European and American Intra-Regional Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dewi Savitri Tobing said here on Thursday.

On August 19, Tobing added, there will be a meeting of four working groups of FEALAC, which will be followed by the senior officials' meeting on August 20.

"The ministerial meeting of FEALAC will be held on August 21, which is scheduled to be opened by the president of Costa Rica," she stated.

The foreign affairs ministers will discuss efforts to determine the future direction of FEALAC.

Tobing further noted that the government of Costa Rica, as the host of the FEALAC meeting this year, wishes to focus the discussion on cooperation to eradicate poverty and ensure sustainable development.

Apart from that, the Indonesian government will encourage a discussion on strengthening South-South cooperation and Triangular cooperation as well as promotion of partnerships between the private sector and the government.

Moreover, another subject that will be discussed at the FEALAC meeting is cooperation in the fields of education and culture and efforts to mitigate climate change.

Finally, all points of cooperation agreed upon in the FEALAC meeting will be entered into a declaration to be called the San Jose Joint Declaration.

"Identifying ways in which the proposals and initiatives for this collaboration can be implemented is a challenge for FEALAC, to ensure that its programs benefit its member countries," she pointed out. (WDY)
