Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) has not received registration of candidates at the first day of the reopening of the registration in seven regions which have candidates less than two pairs, an official said.

The KPU commissioner Hadar Nafis Gumay said in the KPU office here on Sunday that until 04.00 p.m., none of candidates came to the KPU offices in the seven regions to register.

"Perhaps they need more time to prepare the documents, establish opportunity. Let's wait tomorrow," he stated, adding that the reopening of the registration is on August 9-11.

On last Thursday, KPU followed up on the Election Supervisory Board`s (Bawaslu) recommendation to extend the registration period for candidates in seven regions facing a shortage of tickets.

Due to the Bawaslu's decision, the KPU would reorganize the stages of the election processes, but the election would be held as per schedule on December 9, 2015.

The KPU has announced that seven regions have less than two tickets to contest for the simultaneous regional head elections (Pilkada) scheduled on December 9.

The seven regions were Tasikmalaya in West Java; Surabaya, Blitar, and Pacitan in East Java; Mataram in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB); Samarinda in East Kalimantan; and North Timor Tengah in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). (WDY)
