Jakarta (Antara Bali) -- Indonesian Navy personnel have detained a foreign fishing vessel flying the Malaysian flag and marked with the code TW 3550/6/F, in Nunukan, North Kalimantan.

The head of the navy information service, Colonel M. Zainudin, said here on Tuesday that the Malaysian fishing boat, which had five crew members of Indonesian origin onboard, was caught by warship Ki Hajar Dewantara-364 (KDA-364).

"The foreign fishing vessel was skippered by Tomi Bin Lamuni and loaded with some 10 tons of various fish," Zainuddin stated, adding that the owner of the ship was Min Wong Hau.

KRI KDA-364 detected the ship when it was found floating in Sulawesi Sea on Tuesday morning at around 1:15 p.m.

It then approached the vessel, which was 1,500 meters away, he noted.

"Following this, KRI KDA-364 immediately raided the Malaysian foreign boat and inspected the goods onboard," Zainuddin revealed, explaining that the Malaysian fishing vessel did not have the required documents.

According to the colonel, the captain of the vessel was later brought to Nunukan naval base for interrogation.

Preliminary investigation found that the vessel had poached in Indonesian waters without legal documents, violating article 27 (paragraph 2) and article 93 (paragraph 2) of law number 45 of 2009 on fisheries. The captain is punishable to six years in prison with a fine of Rp20 billion. (WDY)
