Langkawi (Antara Bali)- Vice President Jusuf Kalla attended the 11th Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines-East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Leaders' Summit held here on Tuesday.

During the meeting, joint projects being implemented by the four countries, particularly infrastructure connecting the border areas, were discussed, Kalla stated.

He cited the example of the roads constructed by Indonesia in the border areas on which the work will be continued by the Malaysian government on its side to facilitate business transactions among communities residing near border areas.

The leaders also discussed the economic progress in the respective countries to make the region the food basket of ASEAN.

The four leaders also agreed to intensify ties among communities living in border areas, including in the social, cultural, and educational fields.

Kalla informed that the leaders will also attend a trade conference to be held in Makassar next year.

The leaders attending the BIMP-EAGA Leaders' Summit included Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak, Bruneian Sultan Boldiah, and Filipino President Benigno S. Aquino.

After attending the BIMP-EAGA Leaders' Summit, Vice President Kalla participated in the Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) held at the same venue. (WDY)
