Kuala Lumpur (Antara Bali) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) attended the opening ceremony of the 26th ASEAN Summit held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) here on Monday.

Malaysian Prime Minister Nazib Razak during his opening address at the summit stated that this will be a milestone year in the history of the ASEAN countries as the nations will realize the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in late December.

"Our common task this year is to formulate a replacement document to chalk out a road map to implement the AEC in late December," the Malaysian prime minister pointed out.

After the opening ceremony of the ASEAN Summit, President Jokowi will return to Jakarta, while Vice President Jusuf Kalla will attend a "retreat." The 26th ASEAN Summit will be divided into two sessions: the plenary session in Kuala Lumpur and a "retreat" in Langkawi, Kedah.

During the summit, the ASEAN heads of state/government are scheduled to meet the representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ABAC), ASEAN Youth representatives, and Civil Society Organizations' (CSO's) representatives.

Besides this, they are also invited to attend the 12th ASEAN Leadership Forum in Kuala Lumpur. (WDY)
