Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Indonesia's number one mixed double players Tontowi Ahmad (Owi)/Liliyana Natsir (Butet) successfully came out as the champion of the Asia Badminton Championship 2015 in Wuhan, China.

"We are glad we can finally record a victory here. Our performance since All England 2015, Malaysia Open 2015 and Singapore 2015 has never been good. I hope this victory will increase our confidence to meet the next championships and win other titles," Liliyana said after the final match at Wuhan Sports Center Gymnasium as reported by the Social Media and Public Relations team of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) here on Sunday.

Owi/Butet finished the final round of the championship offering US$200,000 in a total prize, defeating Hong Kong mixed double pair Kong Chun Hei Reginald Lee/Hoi Wah Chau in 37 minutes 21-16, 21-15.

In the first set, the two pairs in turn led point collection until they scored an 11-11 draw. After that the Indonesian pair was able to finish the set 21-16.

In the second set Owi/Butet dominated the game and finally were able to conclude the set in their favor at 21-15.

"We hope we could perform even better later. We are now making preparations for other big matches before finally taking part in the Olympic Games," Owi said.

Hong Kong pair Chun/Hoi said they were satisfied with the final match although they lost and finished only as a runner-up.

"We did not expect to be able to reach the final round as there were a lot of good pairs we had to beat before," Ho Wah Chau said. (WDY)
