Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Vice-President Jusuf Kalla has expressed hope that the OIC countries' leaders can hold a meeting during the Asia-Africa Conference (AAC) in Jakarta and Bandung, West Java, from April 19 to 24, 2015.
"We hope that during the AAC commemoration, the leaders of the OIC member countries can hold a meeting," Kalla stated here on Wednesday.
President Joko Widodo on Tuesday evening (April 14) called Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to talk about the matter, according to Kalla. In the meeting, they discussed the need to establish a task force to find solutions to ongoing conflicts in Yemen.
Earlier in the day, Kalla held a meeting with some 30 OIC member countries' ambassadors to Indonesia at Merdeka Palace. The meeting discussed the importance of unity among Muslims throughout the world to face various challenges.
Kalla stressed the need to promote Islam as a peaceful and tolerant religion. The vice-president reiterated that Indonesia has urged conflicting parties to exercise self-restrain and find peaceful solutions through dialogs and diplomatic means.
The ambassadors have supported a proposal by Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno LP Marsudi to hold a special session during the Asia-Africa Conference 2015 and to discuss the latest developments in some Muslim majority countries and efforts to look for peaceful solutions. (WDY)
