Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Indonesia has warmly welcomed a plan to organize "Bridges-Dialogues Towards a Culture of Peace" as part of efforts to encourage national contributions to maintaining global peace, the Foreign Ministry said.
Chief of the International Peace Foundation (IPF) Uwe Morawetz paid a courtesy call on Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister A.M. Fachir on Wednesday (March 25) to discuss the plan to organize the event, the ministry said in a press statement released on Sunday.
IPF plans to organize the dialogues in November 2016 and April 2017 in cooperation with a number of leading universities in Indonesia.
Deputy Foreign Minister Fachir warmly welcomed the event saying it could enrich younger generations' knowledge of efforts to build culture of peace to thwart conflicts.
He said the preamble of the 1945 Constitution stipulated that Indonesia would always play an active role in maintaining global peace and order.
"Surely, this is in line with the vision and mission of IPF which put emphasis on peace, democracy and interfaith dialogues," he said.
To that end, the Indonesian government would coordinate with a number of universities involved in the event to make it a success, he added.
"Bridges-Dialogues Towards a Culture of Peace" is the program of IPF to organize interactive dialogues between Nobel Peace laureates and universities in the world on the issues of peace, humanity and democracy as well as on the efforts to improve the quality of education and sciences. (WDY)
