Palu, C Sulawesi (Antara Bali) -- The National Defense Forces (TNI) will soon conduct a military exercise in Poso district, Central Sulawesi province, which will involve some 2,000 soldiers to improve their preparedness.
It is untrue that the exercise is aimed at catching terrorist groups," Head of the Information Service at the 132/Tadulako District Military Command Maj. Ihza Faly said here on Monday.
Faly added that he did not know exactly when the military exercise would commence, but stated that he believed it would be held in late March or early April.
TNI Chief Gen. Moeldoko would officially open the week-long exercise that would involve several units, he affirmed.
The district was chosen as the venue for the military exercise because it met geographical conditions, including having a lot of hills, Faly pointed out, adding that Poso had an airstrip and port, which made it suitable to conduct a war exercise.
He reiterated that the military exercise was not aimed at catching terrorist suspects who were hiding in the district's forests. "Catching terrorists is the police's task. We will only conduct a military exercise there," he emphasized. (WDY)
