New York (AFP / Antara Bali) - Stocks on Wall Street ended up falling on Friday (Saturday morning GMT), following the European equity markets lower after US jobs report varied and another decline in oil prices.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed slumped 170.50 points (0.95 percent) to 17737.37, ending a volatile week in which the index of leading shares recorded a three-digit movement for five days.

Broad-based index of the S & P 500 fell 17.33 points (0.84 percent) to finish at 2044.81, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite index lost 32.12 points (0.68 percent) to 4704.07.

The US economy added 252,000 jobs in December, but analysts expressed concern at the weak wage growth. Hourly earnings rose just 1.7 percent from a year ago, just keep abreast of inflation.

Equity markets in the UK, France and Germany all fell at least one percent, partly because of disappointment over the potential size of the stimulus are reportedly being considered by the European Central Bank (ECB).

Oil prices fell to its lowest point since April 2009, as the US contract expires at 48.36 dollars a barrel.

Some oil-related stocks fell. Dow components Chevron sank 2.0 percent, while the oil services company Schlumberger lost 1.8 percent and the drilling company Transocean shrink 1.0 percent.

Chemicals giant DuPont fell 1.4 percent after the investment firm Trian said it would seek to win four seats on the board of directors. Trian led by activist investor Nelson Peltz leading.

Bed Bath & Beyond, retailer of household goods, fell 6.8 percent as its earnings for the third quarter fell five percent to 225.4 million US dollars.

Coffee giant Starbucks lost 3.3 percent since announced that veteran executive Troy Alstead, director of cooperative today, take "unpaid leave extension" of the company.

Bond prices rose. The yield on 10-year US government fell to 1.96 percent from 2.01 percent on Thursday, while the 30-year bond fell to 2.54 percent from 2.59 percent. Bond prices and yields move inversely. (MFD)
