Incheon, S Korea (Antara Bali) - The Indonesian women's badminton team failed to advance to the semifinals of the 2014 Asian Games, losing to Japan 0-3 at Gyeyang Gymnasium, Incheon, South Korea, on Saturday.
Indonesia's first singles player Linda Wenfanetri lost to Minatsu Mitani in a rubber set 21-19, 21-23, 12-21.
In the doubles event, the Indonesian pair of Greysia Polii/Nitya Krishinda Maheswari bowed to Japanese duo Ayaka Takahashi/Misaki Matsutomo in a rubber set 14-21, 21-18, 19-21.
The Japanese team secured a 3-0 victory after Indonesia's second singles player Bellaetrix Manuputty lost in a straight set 18-21, 14-21.
The Indonesian women's team moved to the quarterfinals after crushing Maldives 3-0.
Indonesia is expected to take home a medal from the badminton event when its men's team plays against Thailand on Sunday (Sept 21). (WDY)
