Surabaya (Antara Bali) - Geothermal energy will continue to be developed to replace decreasing fuel oil in Indonesia, Research and Technology Minister Gusti Muhamad Hatta said here on Tuesday.
"We are currently developing geothermal energy to replace fuel oil," the research and technology minister said in a function to open APEC Senior Officials Meeting II on "Policy Partnership on Science and Technology and Innovation (PPSTI)" at JW Marriott.
He noted that Indonesia has 40 percent of geothermal energy in the world but only 2 percent of which has been utilized.
"Therefore we will continue to develop geothermal energy," Gusti said, adding that compared to fuel oil, geothermal is environmentally-friendly energy and thus the government would continue to optimize such an energy.
Geothermal energy in Indonesia is being developed in North Sulawesi and West Java," he noted. (IGT)
