Padang (Antara Bali) - West Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno said all school-grade students in the province will study the Minangkabau Traditional Culture as part of local content in their studies.

The governor made the remarks here on Saturday, adding that the Minangkabau Traditional Culture will also became the learning subject in universities including in Surau (minor mosques).

According to him, the decision to learn the Minangkabau Traditional Culture came up in a discussion on the provincial regulation draft regarding an effort to strengthen and preserve the traditional cultural values which took place at the provincial legislative building here.

Prayitno said, local language (Padangnese) will be used in the learning process of the Minangkabau Traditional Culture.

In addition, all villages are also urged to make cultural database in a bid to strengthen and preserve the traditional cultural values, he said. (DWA/IGT)
