Jakarta (Antara Bali) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono led a limited cabinet meeting on Sunday to decide a national policy to prevent a recurrence of the ongoing floods that have affected several parts of Jakarta.
The meeting which was attended by a number of ministers, Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo and Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Board (BNPB) Syamsul Maarif took place in the yard of the Otista Sports Stadium in Jatinegara, East Jakarta.
The ministers included Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa, Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Agung Laksono, Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, Transport Minister EE Mangindaan, Youth and Sports Minister Roy Suryo N, Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo and Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam.
The sports stadium is currently used as a flood command post. At least 1,451 flood evacuees are taking shelter there.
The meeting was preceded by the speeches by the Jakarta governor and the public works minister who unveiled a plan to build a flood way connecting Ciliwung River to the East Flood Canal. (*/T007)
