Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo said the government will take safeguard measures to anticipate the impact of global economic crisis on Indonesia.
"To strengthen the domestic economy, we will always try to prevent it from the impact of global economy by taking safeguard measures when revising the 2012 state budget," he said at a working meeting between the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission XI and the finance minister, the national development planning minister, the governor of Bank Indonesia, and the head of the central statistics agency (BPS) at the parliament building here on Thursday.
One of the steps to anticipate the impact of global economic meltdown is using budget funds as efficiently as possible, he said.
"We will implement an austerity program by cutting budget allocations to ministries and agencies particularly for low priority programs," he said.
In addition, the government will also allocate unspent budget to speed up development projects, he said.
"The other anticipatory measure is using budget leftover to speed up infrastructure development particularly in the eastern part of Indonesia," he said.(*/T007)
