Semarang (Antara Bali) - At least six members of a family were killed after their car met with an accident along the Kaliwungu ring road in Kendal, central Java on Saturday morning, the police said.
"Six of the nine-member family, who were traveling in a car from Pondok Gede in Bekasi, west Java to Solo in central Java, were killed instantly after their vehicle was hit by a speeding Garuda Mas bus, which was going from Semarang to Jakarta," Kendal police spokesman Adjunct Senior Commissioner Kusdiantoro said.
The victims have been identified as Sugiyono (40), Agung Hariyadi (17), Alintyastiani (28), Surani (41), Taskia (2) and Rusyanto (30).
Kusdiantoro added that the surviving three passengers, namely Putra Kurniadi, Dedi Triatmo, and Slamet Budiono have sustained serious injuries.
"The three injured victims have been admitted to the Dr Soewondo Hospital in Kendal," Kusdinatoro stated, adding that the family were on their way to celebrate Lebaran with their relatives when the accident took place.(IGT)
