Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Publicly listed state telecommunications operator PT Indosat Tbk has reported a consolidated operating income of Rp4.98 trillion in the year ending March 31, 2012, up by 2.1 percent from the same period last year.

"As we have anticipated, the market remains a challenge in the first quarter of this year. But we were able to record customer growth even if our margin came under pressure," Indosat President Director and CEO Harry Sasongko said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

"We also see a change in the pattern of data use, to which we will respond by offering integrated data in the future," he stated.

Harry said cellular services, fixed data, and fixed lines contributed 82 percent, 3 percent, and 5 percent, respectively, to the consolidated operating income.

The 3 percent growth of cellular income in the first quarter of 2012 was chiefly fueled by a 14 percent increase in the number of customers, an increase of 6.4 million customers, from a year earlier. Income from tower rents contributed Rp96.7 billion, up 9.9 percent from the same period last year.(IGT/T007)
