Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The state oil and gas company PT Pertamina has announced it will plant 100 million trees in stages across the country, as part of its responsibility towards environmental preservation.
"We have set ourselves a programme, from 2011 to 2015, to plant 100 million trees across the country," Pertamina Corporate Secretary Mochamad Harun said during a Corporate Social Responsibility Lecture here on Monday.
He stated that Pertamina would plant the trees in stages and take care of them in its efforts to inspire the people to appreciate the "green living lifestyle".
"People who like the green living lifestyle are expected to improve their living standards," Harun said, adding that the tree planting programme of Pertamina was meant to reduce carbon emissions and improve living standards.
Harun noted that the company planted 1 million trees in 2011 and would continue to plant 4 million in 2012, 15 million in 2013, 30 million in 2014, and 50 million in 2015.(IGT)
