A total of 86 flights linking the Indonesian resort island of Bali to various cities in China have been cancelled since January 13, 2020 in response to the spread of the novel Coronavirus (nCov).

Overall, the number of passengers traveling on the Bali-China flight route between January 13 and 30 grew slightly by 1.13 percent, Arie Ahsanurrohim, communication and legal manager of state airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I's branch at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport said Friday.

However, the figure dropped significantly by 21.7 percent between January 25 and 30, he added.

To anticipate the spread of the coronavirus, PT Angkasa Pura I, along with stakeholders particularly the Denpasar port health office I have also prepared special lanes for passengers arriving from China, he said.

"The special lanes are intended as anticipatory and quick measures for passengers who are ill and need further treatment," he said.

The management of the airport has also prepared a special room in the vicinity of the international arrival terminal to serve passengers requiring further treatment, he said.

If a passenger is suspected of being infected, he/she will be taken to the Denpasar port health office I clinic, he said.

Chinese authorities declared the first case of coronavirus after a person, with pneumonia, was hospitalized in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, according to an official statement of the World Health Organization (WHO).

As of Friday morning, the death toll increased to 213, with a total of 9,066 people testing positive for the infection while 12,167 others are suspected of being infected. (INE)
