Nusa Dua (Antara Bali) - Security has been tightened around the venues of the 19th ASEAN Summit and 6th East Asia Summit in Nusa Dua, Bali, from November 12 to 19.
All along the by-pass between Ngurah Rai international airport and Nusa Dua, police posts had been set up at points only 200 meters from each other to oversee the traffic flows.
Every car entering the Nusa Dua Hotel was checked by police, military and hotel security personnel.
Bali deputy regional police chief Brigadier General Ketut Untung Yoga Ana said the police were ready to ensure the security of the events at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center and the Bali International Convention Center.
The police in cooperation with the military had secured eleven places where delegates would stay such as Hotel Melia, Grand Hyatt, Sheraton Laguna, Ayodya, Westin, Novotel and Inna Putri.
Sixteen heads of state/government from ASEAN and its partners are scheduled to attend the summits.
The Indonesian government has deployed around 15,000 security personnel to ensure the security of the events.
In addition to the ASEAN Summit, meetings will also be held between ASEAN and its dialog partners such as Japan, South Korea and China.(*)
