Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo said five officials of his ministry had been suspended in connection with the disbursement of Regional Infrastructure Development Acceleration Funds (DPPID) in transmigration areas worth Rp500 billion.
"We have suspended at least five officials as part of the steps to investigate the possibility of the involvement of finance ministry officials," the finance minister said here on Thursday.
Agus said that his ministry had taken the step to maintain its integrity and to allow legal process regarding a case of information leakage.
"We support the legal process and the enforcement of the law. We appreciate the initiative of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to carry out its task. We suspended them in connection with the leaking of the information," the minister said.
He reaffirmed an earlier statement that Sindu Malik who was rumored as a broker for budget disbursement was no longer a finance ministry's official.
Sindu was former chief for Regional Tax and Retribution Affairs of the Directorate of Financial Balance of the Ministry of Finance.
"I do not know who Sindu Malik is. He is not an official of the finance ministry and you should not link him with the finance ministry," the minister said.
The five suspended officials are now in the process of investigation in connection with the case of leaking information on the disbursement of the funds which were not yet allowed to be disbursed.(*/T007)
