Banda Aceh (Antara Bali) - Eleven yachts of the countries taking part in the "Sabang Internasional Regatta 2011" have moored in Gapang tourist quay, Sabang, Aceh.

ANTARA reported from Sabang Monday night that the eight yachts have been arriving in Sabang waters from morning till the afternoon after sailing from the Lamkawi coast in Malaysia.

The 11 yachts came from the Netherlands, Britain, the United States, Australia, Malaysia and Thailand.

The organizers, including the immigration, health personnel and the police have checked the papers of thew "Sabang International Regatta 2011" participants before landing at the Gapang pier.

Earlier the participants had been released at Phuket coast in  Thailand, and sailed to Lamkawi, Malaysi, and eventually to Sabang, Indonesia.

Head of Sabang cultural and tourism agency Yusfah Hanum said the Sabang Internasional Regatta 2011 event is organized with the cooperation of the Indonesian Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Aceh administration, and the local city administrations.

"Tonight the participants will be welcomed with traditional dances and entertainment stages," he said.

Sabang Internasional Regatta 2011 is aimed at introducing maritime tourism potentials of the island with a population of 30 thousand.

In the meantime, three ferry boats from Ulee Lhue port in Banda Aceh, in the last two days had been serving thousands of passengers, mainly foreign and local tourists wishing to watch the rare international event.(*)
