Kuta (Antara Bali) - Indonesia's Environment Ministry is preparing a 350-hour cycling trip from Bali to Bandung in West Java on the occasion of the Tunza Indonesia, Children and Youth Conference on the Environment 2011 on September 27.
One of the ministry's spokesperson, Dodo Sambodo, said here on Wednesday that the campaign was an effort to invite the public to participate in the efforts to reduce gas emissions.
"These efforts can contribute to the achievement of the 26-percent carbon dioxide emission reduction target. We want to fight the wasting of energy with the environmentally friendly activity of cycling," he said after a ceremony to launch an "Indonesia Cycling" campaign in Kuta.
The cycling campaign would be participated in by eight people from a variety of cycling communities who would depart from Gilimanuk, Bali, and proceed to Bandung via Yogyakarta.
The campaign was also designed to welcome the Tunza "Children and Youth Conference on the Environment 2011" in Bandung on September 27 to October 1.
According to Tunza Indonesia National Committee member Wahyu Marjaka, the conference would be attended by children and youths from around the world who cared about the environment.
"Indonesia has been entrusted to host this conference, and Tunza can be a tool for us to conduct environmental diplomacy," he said.
The biannual conference would be participated in by about 550 or more children and youths aged 15 to 25 years from 120 countries.
In the Tunza conference Indonesia would also create an urban forest in Bandung, and issue a Bandung Declaration which would also define the younger generation's position in the world's sustainable development, he said.
"With the Tunza conference themed 'Reshaping our Future through a Green Economy and Sustainable Lifestyle.' we hope to contribute to the efforts of making the green economy a lifestyle," he said.(*/T007)
