Nusa Dua (Antaranews Balitb) - Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), visited the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center in Badung District on Friday ahead of the 2018 IMF-World Bank (WB) Annual Meetings scheduled in October.
Lagarde was accompanied by Peter Jacobs, chairman of the IMF-WB Annual Meetings` Task Force, and Causa Iman Karana, head of the Bank Indonesia chapter in Bali.
Lagarde lauded the Indonesian government for making sound preparations for the meeting.
"We are very pleased for the extraordinary cooperation that we have established with Bank Indonesia, the related authorities, and government for this activity. We maintain an amazing relationship," she emphasized.
Lagarde arrived in Bali on Thursday evening to review preparations for the annual meetings.
Last Monday (Feb 26), President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had received Lagarde, who led an IMF delegation, in Jakarta.
The delegation comprised IMF`s high-ranking officials, such as Director of the Asia-Pacific Department Changyong Rhee, Director of the Communication Department Gerard Rice, and Secretary of the IMF Jianhai Lin.
After an almost hour-long meeting, President Jokowi then took the delegation to visit a general hospital in South Jakarta to witness first-hand improvements in the public health care system through "Kartu Indonesia Sehat," an identification card for the poor that can be used to receive free to low-cost medication.
While in the South Jakarta area, President Jokowi and the IMF`s delegates also visited the Mayestic Market to observe how improvements in the market`s infrastructure have the potential to influence domestic economic growth at the local level.
The IMF delegation`s main agenda in Jakarta was to attend a high-level international conference themed "New Growth Models in a Changing Global Landscape" on Feb 27.
On Mar 1, Lagarde addressed a seminar titled "The Future Work" held at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Economy and Business of the Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta.(*)
