Nusa Dua (Antara Bali) - Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa and his North Korean counterpart, Pak Ui Chun, have agreed to continue cooperation within the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to make sure NAM remains a global problem solver in the next 50 years.

"The challenges in the 21st century are very much different from those in the next 50 years, and just now we discussed our views on this matter," Minister Marty said here Tuesday after meeting Minister Pak Ui Chun on the sidelines of NAM meeting.

In the bilateral meeting, the two ministers also discussed the latest developments in the Korean Peninsula located in East Asia.

"As the ASEAN Chair, we want the East Asian region to remain peaceful and stable. And Indonesia as the ASEAN Chair has been requested to visit No Korea," Marty said.

The visit, which is part of the preparations for the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) to be held in Bali next July,  is aimed among other things at receiving comprehensive information about the development in the country.

"He welcomed it and gave information on the perceptions concerning  the developments in the Korean Peninsula. He also invited Indonesia to visit North Korea in the near future, prior to the ARF, to get comprehensive information on his country's situation," Marty said.

On the Six Party Talks, Marty said ASEAN believed conducive situation must be created to resume the talks discussing conflicts in the Korean Peninsula between North Korea and South Korea.

The ARF in Bali next July is very important because all key countries will be represented in the forum.

The Six-Party Talks concerning the North and South Korean problem involve the United States, North Korea, China, Japan, Russia and, South Korea.(*)
