Jakarta (Antara Bali) - President Joko Widodo has said Indonesia
should study and make calculation of electric cars to help address
climate change impacts and preserve the environment.
"We should research the development of electric cars. All parties have started their research on electric cars," Widodo said here on Sunday, while attending Betawi Lebaran Day or friendship day celebration in Setu Babakan of South Jakarta.
According to the President, the government must prepare necessary regulations and research the vehicles technology.
"We should prepare the regulations and facilities so that Indonesia is ready to face the development," Jokowi said.
Additionally, Widodo said the government should review incentives that could be given to the inventors, industries and their research on electric cars.
Meanwhile, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry stated they had reviewed electric car project and fuel saving issue.
The ministry plans to develop a local electric car project along with the Industrial Ministry.
The ministry has also discussed the development of battery recharge station for electric cars. (*)
