Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Indonesian government has committed to
strengthen the election system by thoroughly reforming the the General
Elections Commissions (KPU) and the Elections Supervisory Agency, the
Interior Minister Tjahjo Kumolo said here on Thursday.
The Minister believes a stable and strength election system could constitute a good leader in the executive or legislative fields.
"A supervision from the press and the public will be important to help the government improve the election system quality," Kumolo said after meeting with the election special taskforce in Atlet Century Hotel Jakarta.
Furthermore, the Minister also evaluates the basic requirement, including a minimum educational degree for the commissioners members.
"A graduate degree as a minimum members requirement should be evaluated in a broad perspective," the Minister stated.
Unlike universitys professors or staffs, an educational degree should be treated as complementary and not necessity for the election commissions members, Kumolo added.
"Experience remains a major requirement for the commissions member candidate," the Minister noted.
The election special taskforces chairman, Lukman Eddy said the meeting which was attended by the Minister has been planned to discuss 18 strategic issues, including the electoral threshold, the election system, an increased number of House of Representatives chairs, candidates requirements, voting system, dispute mechanism, and money politics.
Womens participation, partys campaign, and election day also will be deliberated at the meeting.
The meeting held since March 22 and scheduled to last for three days will examine some issues in the countrys election system. The meetings results will be used to help the authorities to set rules for future elections.(WDY)
