Jakarta(Antara Bali) - The government through Ministry of Justice and Human Rights gave special Christmas remission to 6,707 inmates of Christianity adherents coinciding with the Christmas feast which falls on Sunday, December 25, 2016.

Of these 6,707 inmates, as many as 79 people got special remission or immediately released (RK II), while the other 6,628 people received special part remission (RK I), according to Minister of Justice and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly, in his written statement received here on Sunday.

The minister further stated that the remission on the Christmas holiday should not only be considered as a reduction of sentence, but it should also be seen as self-reflection given the mistakes that have been committed.

"While undergoing the sentence (in prison), it should not be assumed as a suffering alone, but an retrospection to return to the faith and truth," the minister disclosed in his written remarks read out by wardens at time of delivering the remissions in their regions.

The Special Christmas remissions were at least 15 days and two months at the most, depending on the criminal sentence which had been undertaken.

In addition, the minister said that President Joko Widodo has issued the Presidential Regulation No. 87/2016 concerning the Task Force on the eradication of illegal levies. (WDY)
