Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno L.P. Marsudi welcomed the 91 evacuated Indonesian citizens from Yemen who arrived at the Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport on Monday morning (April 13), noted a press release received here, Monday.
Some 91 Indonesian nationals fled the conflict in Yemen safely on board an Indonesian Air Forces Boeing 737-400.
Marsudi lauded the efforts of the evacuation team comprising representatives from the Foreign Ministry, Air Force, Police, and State Intelligence Agency (BIN).
According to Marsudi, the evacuation was carried out quickly, safely, and efficiently due to the communication and coordination between all parties.
However, the security situation in Yemen, particularly in Aden city and its surrounding areas, is still not conducive.
According to Reuters, Saudi Arabia and its Sunni Arab allies have been bombing Yemen for over two weeks in a bid to slowdown the advance of Iranian-allied Houthi militias towards the southern port city of Aden.
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Sunday expressed concern over the ongoing fighting and urged for holding peace talks.
"In Yemen, I have strongly objected to the Houthis attempting to control the country by force. This is unacceptable. But, I am also deeply concerned about the military escalation," Ban informed reporters in the Qatari capital, Doha.
Earlier, the Indonesian team managed to evacuate and repatriate another 71 citizens from Yemen as the conflict continues to escalate, the Foreign Affairs Ministry stated here on Wednesday.
"Today, the Indonesian team will repatriate another 71 citizens from Yemen," the ministrys spokesman, Arrmanatha Nasir, noted here on Wednesday.
According to Nasir, the first group comprising 11 repatriated Indonesians will arrive on board a flight from Yemen via Djibouti here on Wednesday night," he pointed out.
Meanwhile, the second group of 60 evacuees will be flown into Jakarta through Salalah.
The Emirates Airline flight from Muscat, carrying 60 citizens on board, is scheduled to arrive in Jakarta at 10:30 p.m. local time.
Furthermore, Arrmanatha remarked that there is still one group comprising 47 people who are attempting to get out of Yemen through Tareem and will then move towards Salalah. The group comprises 43 Indonesians, two Britons, and two Americans.
In addition, he pointed out that there are 300 Indonesian citizens in Tareem who are keen to be evacuated from Yemen.
"Then, there are about 200 Indonesian citizens who are willing to be evacuated," he stated.
Earlier, on Saturday, (April 4), the Indonesian evacuation acceleration team, which departed from Jakarta on Thursday, (April 2), had managed to enter Tareem city through the Yemen-Oman border and have been coordinating with the Indonesian citizens located in Tareemm Al Mukalla and other cities within the Hadhramaut area to make necessary preparations for the evacuation process.
One of the efforts made by the team was to convince the Indonesian citizens to leave the conflict-torn nation.
The evacuation team dispatched by the Government of Indonesia comprises 43 personnel, including 14 from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 21 belonging to the Air Force, seven Police, and three from the National Intelligence Agency (BIN).
The team is constantly looking for ways to immediately, safely, and efficiently evacuate all citizens in Yemen.
The Indonesian citizens evacuation operation in Yemen also involves five Indonesian representatives from the Embassy in Sanaa, Embassy in Riyadh, Embassy in Muscat, Embassy in Addis Ababa, and the Consulate General in Jeddah. (WDY)
