Indonesian Accountants Must Be Ready To Face AEC

Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Accountants in Indonesia must be ready to face the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community which will begin at the end of 2015, an accountant organization chief said.

"Many accountants from other ASEAN countries are interested in working in Indonesia," Retty Setiawan, the head of the representative office of the CPA Australia - Indonesia, said here on Thursday.

Retty said that in a meeting, a number of accountants from the ASEAN region like Singapore and Malaysia had expressed interest in Indonesia.

The head of the representative office of the Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) Australia - Indonesia said that Indonesian accountants must therefore prepare themselves.

She made the remarks on the  sidelines of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CPA Australia and Inti College Indonesia.

Retty said that the implementation of the AEC in 2015 necessitated all economic and service professionals, including accountants, to increase their capability if they want to compete with their counterparts coming from other ASEAN countries.

She said many foreign accountants would come to Indonesia because Indonesia served as a market destination with the biggest economic potential among the AEC.

"Many foreign accountants want to work in Indonesia because Indonesia has extraordinary economic potentials," Retty said.

In the meantime, the Indonesian Accountants Association (IAI) is convinced that Indonesian accountants are now ready to face professional competition in the AEC, which will begin next year.

"Many Indonesian accountants who already have state registration numbers have worked as professional workers in Vietnam, Cambodia, or Laos. Not to mention the fact that they work under the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) scheme," Director of Communications, Marketing and Business Development of IAI Deny Poerhadiyanto recently stated.

He revealed that the Indonesian financial industry also met the international accountancy standards, and hence, many foreign accountants have also been working in Indonesia.

"Foreign accountants working in Indonesia included those from the Philippines, Bangladesh, India, Hong Kong, and Nigeria," Deny pointed out.(MFD)
